They who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. Psalm 34:5 NLT
In the shadow of shame
I lay my head down
Crimson stains color
Memories too hard to name
And I beg for the tears
To leak out the toxin
But the shame is a poison
Powerful and noxious
So I let the years weather
Away it’s embrace
Stay out in the elements
So the stain starts to fade
And what’s left in my head
Of the shameful past
Looks like rough jagged wood
With a rather pale cast
But there in my heart
Where the sun shines bright
There’s a shadow of shame
Untouched by the Light
And the shadow of Grace,
Sees all of me, whole
Sees all of my life
As an old weathered soul
I remember I must
Let the Son reach me
I must remember that He
Bore the shame on the Tree
So I curse my shadow of shame
And give its crimson another name
The Shadow of Grace
A reminder for me
That He drew me from darkness
Gave me Calvary
And bids me glory—
Not in my shame
But that He holds me in the Shadow of His Wings
Praise His Holy Name.
