This is the latest Barn Painting entitled Acid Tears. It has been in my mind for quite some time. This is the first time I’ve painted on wood.
I chose a 5x7 piece of wood that mimicked barn siding as my ‘canvas’. Cosmetics were my only medium. This time, I painted a ‘face full of make-up’ onto the wood as described in the poem Blood-Bought Bare. Foundation, face powder, lipstick, eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush and mascara were my primary mediums. Because of an issue with orientation, I had to start again so I used make-up remover and Vaseline to make the wood ‘bare’ again. As the final touch, I dripped nail polish remover onto the entire piece as ‘Acid Tears’. That didn’t have the exact effect on wood as I had imagined on canvas but you can see ‘the tears’ pooled at the bottom near the roots of the wildflowers. Hairspray was used as a setting agent.
In person, it is a muted piece with some of the only light coming from the yellow wildflowers. You can clearly see a fingerprint near the top which is planned and purposeful. I imagine it displayed in a garden setting, rustic back porch or hanging from a fence.
